Located half-way between Chicago and Milwaukee, west of the Tri-State Tollway-294 and north of Long Grove are the North Suburban communities. This area is filled with newer homes on larger lots than found in the towns in the Northwest Suburbs. Some of the institutions of higher education that are closest to the North Suburban communities are the College of Lake County, Lake Forest College, Shimer College, Trinity College, Northwestern University, Kendall College, and National Lewis University.
